Questions & Answers

Why did you change the guy’s names in your book but not your own?

Funny, because I originally wanted to give myself an alias name. As a kid I always named my dolls Britney and Samantha. So Britney was my first choice for the book. But as my editor reminded me, with that name I would automatically be misinterpreted. When I inquired on going with Samantha instead, she again reminded me, "As in the girl from in Sex and the City?" I got the point.

Jenny is already an original adult female name. Most shorten it to Jenn or lengthen it to Jennifer but I'm just Jenny. For this book my own name is perfect.

Are your stories really true?

Entirely. I didn't fib in a single one, which is what makes them so amazing.

Will you write more books?

I would like to. Either a sequel based on finding Mr. Right or a book that is based on my childhood. I was Laura Ingalls Wilder of the 80's and that has carved the person I am today. My family raised llama's and lived under 2x4's and plastic for half of my life. I worked hard as a child and grew up to be a bit of a dorky 4-H kid. It's no wonder I moved out and into the city the second I could get a job and take care of myself.

Do you think the way a man is raised makes a difference in how he dates?

Yes. I've dated guys who come from nothing as well as those who had everything. The best guys are the ones who were shown love and affection growing up. They in turn aren't afraid to give it as adults.

Do you prefer a romantic or adventurous date?

Adventure date for sure. I haven't had a lot of practice being romanced so in turn I don't think I'm very good at it. I'd do much better jumping out of a plane than having a conversation about stocks over candlelight.

What is your favorite topic when you are on a date?

Horoscopes, though the topic will usually scare any man away. If I’ve learned anything from the stars though it’s that I personally won’t date Gemini’s anymore. I also love to talk about the Raiders since being a huge fan is one of my only (or so I’m told) negative traits.

Are looks or personality more important to you in a man?

Personality. Looks change, especially as we get older. Why do you think I've gone so blonde? Gray hair is killing me. I find that usually the men I am most attracted to are also the ones who have nothing to say. I try to stick to happy, nice guys.

What is your favorite thing to drink on a date?

If during football season then Miller light with a squeeze of lime; that way I can pretend it’s a higher calorie Tecate. If taken on a romantic dinner date and its cool outside then I enjoy a Spanish merlot. Yet if it’s hot out then I would prefer an Argentinean Pinot Grigio. But let’s face it; I don’t drink wine on dates since I don’t often find a man who is willing to pay for a nice dinner. If we are meeting at a bar, then I go with a martini. If it’s our third date then I just go for straight tequila and those closest to me know why.

Where do you typically find the men you date?

I’ve dated men after chatting with them in the line for groceries or pumping their tanks full of gas. Let’s face it, I’ve gone out with a man who sold me my car and another who sold me my mattress! I’ve posted online adds and accepted dates from the responders and of course I’ve gone out with men I’ve met at bars…numerous times. Most of my stories come from the men I’ve met at the gym. I am pretty much always open to accepting a date.

Do your friends understand why you are still single?

Well I would hope they all said no! However, I’m pretty sure most of them would admit that I can be a complete idiot. I love stupid jokes and I’m not afraid to light fire with my feet on the dance floor. I’m comfortable with who I am. It can be hard to find a man who is okay with those traits.

What is something a lot of people don't know about you?

I've never been given flowers by a man. Ouch, that even kind of hurt to answer.

Will you ever leave San Diego?

I've been here nearly 10 years and have a great job and everlasting friends. But the dating scene in SD is tough. Should this book take off the way I think it will I may head to New York.

Do you ever think you will meet your soul mate?

I don't know how I feel about soul mates. As I've gotten older my opinions and values have changed and in turn changed the type of person I am now attracted to. I just hope to meet the most perfect man at that most perfect time in my life.
